Fashion designer gets sentenced to life in prison
A popular Beverly Hills-based fashion designer was found guilty of sexually assaulting seven young women and was sentenced to life in prison on Thursday.
Anand Jon Alexander was found guilty of one count of rape and fifteen counts of sexual assault and other charges. The trial took two months and tainted the fashion world with negative issues.
The jury was composed of six men and six women. It took seven days for them to deliberate on the case and eventually came up with a unanimous decision.
The convicted designer showed almost no emotion as the verdict was being read by the court clerk in front of a crowded courtroom. His sister was visibly stunned with the decision, however.
Prosecutors stressed outside the court that serial rapists and child molesters will not be tolerated ever.
“This jury today has sent a message that our communities will not tolerate serial rapists and child molesters like Anand Jon. They will be held accountable, and the victims will get justice,” Deputy Dist. Atty. Frances Young said.
Meanwhile, defense lawyer Leonard Levine said that Alexander plans to appeal the case and will ask for a new trial.
Alexander was arrested in March last year after one woman accused him of rape.
