Fashion designer Julien Macdonald is currently on hot waters after he was quoted saying that plus size models don’t have a place in the modeling industry, stressing that these models would not find success in this line of work.

The fashion icon, who received an OBE for his contribution in the industry, is currently a judge on “Britain’s Next Top Model.”

Macdonald said that the fashion industry should not accept models with sizes above size eight. He added that in the show, it would be a joke if a plus size girl wins the competition. He said that making these models win would only lead to disaster because they will be looked down in the industry after the competition.

“Britain’s Next Top Model” will be back in television screens this month with supermodel Elle Macpherson hosting the show.

Actress Nicole Richie believes that more people are not making enough effort about their appearances.

The reality TV star has turned fashion designer and is currently working for a new line of winter fashion.

The mother of two stressed that she’s making sure that her current undertaking does not interfere with her motherhood. She admitted that it is hard to juggle her schedule but she gets by.

Richie launched her winter and autumn fashion line for 2010 to 2011 last week. This also marked the official launch of her business named House of Harlow 1960.
The designer said that she got a great amount of inspiration for her new collection by observing people. She also said that she created great designs from unexpected moments.

The young mother added that she came up with a new design when she saw a woman wearing a great-looking hat. She was inspired with the design that she came up with a great looking bag out of that inspiration.

Thirty-three students from the prestigious RCA School of Fashion, the world’s only wholly postgraduate fashion school, presented their creations to the press and industry bigwigs via a special fashion show. The designers showcased menswear and womenswear for the experts to scrutinize and determine whether there’s marketability behind these items.

The menswear creations were reportedly inspired from “Crash,” a novel by J.G. Ballard. The clothing were inspired by the hip-hop culture among others. The designers have silver and copper metal yarns that were woven into tailored suits.

Meanwhile, the womenswear creations include robes and tunics that were designed with several porcupine quills, silk and handmade silk roses.

Other accessories have been presented during the fashion show with items made out of silicone, bamboo and leather.

Former Vogue Editor Madge Garland founded the RCA’s Fashion department in 1948. Some of the popular graduates of the school are Bill Gibb, Antony Price and Christopher Bailey.

More than forty retailers of fashion handbags and other apparels have agreed to limit the use of dangerous lead in the products and other fashion accessories.

The companies have agreed to set a new industry standard for the use of lead in the products. This is part of the $1.7 million legal settlement filed last Tuesday in Alameda County Superior Court. The lawsuit was filed last year by the Center for Environmental Health based on Oakland.

The environmental advocacy organization discovered high levels of lead when it tested several items of fashion handbags, purses and wallets bought at popular retail outlets in San Francisco. Some jackets were discovred too.

The retailers that participated in this settlement include Target, JC Penny, Kohl’s, Macy’s, Kmart, Victoria’s Secret and Sears.

Studies have been conducted wherein lead exposure can lead to health problems.

The Advertising Standard Authority (ASA) has ordered designer label Louis Vuitton to pull out its ad of fashion handbags due to a number of complaints they received about the said advert.

According to reports, the latest advertisement of Louis Vuitton featured a picture of a woman stitching the handle of one of its latest handbags, implying that the fashion handbags were made by hand – which is not the case.

The company officials defended the ad saying that the image was a homage to craftsmanship and that it took several years to develop new and creative handbags.

They added that they hired models instead of their employees to avoid bias.

Despite the explanation, ASA believes that the ads breached rules of governing truthfulness because it does mislead customers into believing that the items were actually handmade.

An ASA official said that they considered that most customers would think that way about the ad.

“Sex and the City” star Kim Cattrall revealed that she donned on a designer wedding dress during the shoot of the second big screen installment of the blockbuster US television series in a bid to distract the paparazzi from getting the real plot of the closely guarded script of the film.

The 53-year old actress plays the infamous Samantha Jones, known for having multiple male partners in the series. Cattrall stars with Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis and Sarah Jessica Parker.

The four actresses spent a better part of last year shooting the new movie and had to go through the inconvenience of dealing with paparazzi attempting to take their photos during filming and getting hold of the actual script.

Cattrall admitted that she was furious when there was an instance where one of the photographs took a picture of one of the scripts in her role’s pivotal scenes.

US First Lady Michelle Obama was the center of attraction once more during her state dinner honoring Mexico’s President Felipe Calderon and his wife, Margarita Zavala with her dress that was created by her seemingly favorite fashion designer Peter Sorensen.

Obama wore a one-shouldered dress with a belted waist that has a bold color. Sorensen, a New York-based fashion designer has designed the other three dresses worn by the First Lady in past three occasions. Sorensen has been in the business for nearly a decade.

The fashion designer was aware that his design is up for the running for this significant event. However, he was not sure that his creation was picked until one reporter told him about it. He said that he was excited that his creations have been appreciated by the First Lady.

Sorensen said that he has yet to meet the First Lady personally.

The Kazansky Station in Moscow became a destination for the celebrities on a Friday night as world-renowned fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier staged a fashion show in the area.

In an interview, the designer said that it has been one of his major plans to stage a fashion show in a train station. He immediately accepted the opportunity to stage one at Kazansky when it was offered. The event took place to officially open the Chereshnevy Les arts festival.

He said that train stations symbolize travelling and his collections does match that symbolism because they are mostly used for all kinds of travel.

Local celebrities and models were featured in the fashion show. Gaultier said that he’s impressed with how the Russians dress and that he said he saw a lot of changes in the past five years. The last time he came to Moscow was five years ago.

The highly anticipated film of the year involved four glamorous women and what makes them look that way is through their stylist Patricia Field.

Field has been the series stars’ stylist since the beginning of the show and has influenced a lot of women due to her exciting fashion trends that were featured week after week.

The characters, Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samanta are back once more in the big screen via “Sex And The City 2”.

In an interview, Fields said that her role in the film is similar to a triangle – actor, character and wardrobe. She said that these three should be brought together and she tends to find an answer in this formula – coming up with a hit fashion style.

The film will soon hit the theaters and women from all over are expected to flock the movie theaters and see what their favorite characters are up to this time.

H&M, producer of high quality designer clothes, is sticking with operating in cooler markets.

The company has stores in nearly 40 countries, most if not all of them in cooler countries. The reason behind this is that the Swedish-based company is not yet experienced when it comes to selling their wares in tropical countries.

H&M United States President Daniel Kulle said that they are considering expanding their markets in warmer states such as Texas but they had to wait and see whether the stores they’ve set up would survive in the competitive market. So far he said that most of their stores are performing well.

The company revealed that they are setting up twenty stores in the country this year, which brings the total to 209 in the United States.

Even though they are not yet open to setting up stores in warmer climates, this does not mean that it won’t happen in the future, the company officials said.
