The Corset Rears it Bones in New York Fashion Week
New York fashion week is in full swing. It started out with designers showing easy looks for spring. Designers like Derek Lam showed tan and peachy tones over cropped genie pants. Marc Jacobs’ younger line showed girls in white coats and scarves worn over pleated floral flocks. The designer even included pegged pants and fanny packs – yes, fanny packs. But, through all the loose fits and neutral shades came the corset.
Just as people were falling in love with the lazy trend, fashion designers started to dish out cinched waists and structured bodices. Rib hugging pants and skirts even appeared in a few of the fashion shows. Boned corsets were usually paired with flowy, feathery tulle and printed silk chiffon.
It started with Monique Lhuillier who showed structured dresses and corsets accentuated with soft flowly fabrics. High waists and skinny belts were also seen in Lhuiller’s fashion show. Some fashion designers opted to go for SNM looks that were paired with tailored soft suits. Other designers who included the corset in their fashion collections include: cooky and fun Betsy Johnson, Luca Luca, Isaac Mizrahi, Proenza Schouler and Herve Leger.
Fashion week still has a few more days to go. Some of the biggest names haven’t even shown their collections yet. Who knows where the panache corset will be by then.
